RF Shielding Fabrics

Technology's family of SM-10 RF Green® metallized shielding fabrics combine highly conducive metals with the flexibility and light weight of fabric to meet a diverse range of architectural EMI/RF shielding requirements.

SM-10 RF Green® shielding fabrics are offered in nickel/copper plated polyester mesh netting to provide outstanding shielding effectiveness and surface conductivity. These fabrics accommodate complex contours and shapes, making them ideal for diverse architectural shielding applications.

Application is straightforward using standard wallpaper adhesives. In addition, using conductive adhesives, SM-10 products can be applied in multiple layers for much increased shielding effectiveness. These products are typically recommended for interior applications. Consult LBA if exterior or wet locations must be protected.

SM-10 Shielding Fabrics As Part of A Properly Engineered Solution

Selecting your shielding fabric is only one part of the total EMI/RF shielding solution. Many factors can affect shielding effectiveness. Items such as windows, doors, cable entrances, ductwork and many other factors can have a significant effect on the final signal attenuation of your shielding project. These products are intended for professional application, and should only be installed by experienced craftsmen. LBA is not responsible for completed system performance.

LBA shielding fabrics are not sold for fabrication into drapes, clothing, canopies, or similar products.

Fabric mesh design provides cost effective EMI/RF performance.

Available SM-10 shielding fabrics are constructed of meshed nettings of multiple blended fibers with random mesh opening sizes. This design eliminates frequency-specific open slots, preventing peaks of EMI/RF leakage, and resulting in an exceptionally flat shielding effectiveness profile across its specified frequency range. It also ensures a tight EMI/RF seal at seams, connections, and terminations.

SM-10YD

Economical approach to professionally shielding less critical secure spaces, general lab spaces, conference rooms, and other applications where reduction of RF ingress/egress is desired.

  • Nominal 80 dB shielding effectiveness to 18+ GHz
  • Two layer application reaches 106 dB shielding effectiveness
  • Fabricated of nickel/copper polyester mesh netting fabric
  • General architectural applications except direct exposure to weather.

SM-10YD can be bonded or loosely laid on floors, walls, and ceilings using standard installation techniques including stapling and wallpaper adhesive. Standard surface finish coatings may be used. Multiple layers should be bonded using SMA-C conductive adhesive. No special protective gear is required for installation. 

SM-10YE

A high performance approach to professionally shielding critical secure spaces, precision lab spaces, conference rooms, military facilities and other applications where high reduction of RF ingress/egress is desired.

  • Nominal 100 dB shielding effectiveness to 18+ GHz
  • Two layer application reaches 134 dB shielding effectiveness
  • Fabricated of nickel/copper polyester netting fabric
  • Demanding architectural applications except direct exposure to weather

SM-10YE can be bonded or loosely laid on floors, walls, and ceilings using standard installation techniques including stapling and wallpaper adhesive. Standard surface finish coatings may be used. Multiple layers should be bonded using SMA-C conductive adhesive. No special protective gear is required for installation. 

SM-10LF

A high performance approach to professionally shielding in critical medical, research, and government applications where very high reduction of RF ingress/egress is desired. It is particularly effective for shielding MRI rooms.

  • Nominal 150 dB performance at MRI frequencies
  • Exceeds 140 dB effectiveness from 60 – 450 MHz
  • 100 dB+ shielding effectiveness to 40 GHz.
  • Premium nickel/copper random mesh nonwoven fabric laminated to aluminum film
  • All applications except direct exposure to weather.

Installation of SM-10LF can readily be accomplished through standard construction techniques, as specified by the user. The flexibility and resilience of the material enables reduced construction times compared to metal sheeting installations common at these shielding levels. Standard surface finish coatings may be used. 

SMA-C

Conductive adhesive for bonding shielding fabrics. SMA-C should be used when overlapping shielding material seams, attaching to shield penetrations, or bonding multiple fabric layers. For attachment of fabric to building substrate, standard high quality wallpaper paste is recommended.
