LBA Energy Shield Chosen to Protect New Oregon State University Center Laboratories
GREENVILLE, NC – August 11, 2004 — Lawrence Behr Associates, Inc. (www.lbagroup.com) today announced that it has been awarded the contract to provide the architecturally integrated electromagnetic shielding security system for Oregon State University’s new Kelley Electrical Engineering Center. LBA will provide design services, materials and implementation management for the Kelley Center’s new research laboratories.
“Architectural electromagnetic shielding is a cost-effective way to incorporate shielding in new and renovated construction,” explains Mike Britner, Vice President of Business Development of Lawrence Behr Associates. “It is the best choice in spaces where sensitive equipment or information must be protected from external radio frequency signals, or where occupants must be protected from hazardous levels of radio frequency energy. Applied between floors and walls of a building, our architectural electromagnetic shielding also enhances and secures WiFi and wireless LAN deployments.”
The LBA shielding system at the Kelley Center will isolate laboratory activities from stray radio frequency signals that might corrupt experiments, and contain radio energy within lab spaces to avoid undesirable environmental impact. The building will be the first at OSU to be “green certified”.
The Kelley Electrical Engineering Center is currently under construction and is slated for completion in early 2005. The Center will occupy 145,000 square feet, cost $45 million, and will house the Computer Science, Electrical, and Computer Engineering Departments. Programs will focus on new technologies in wireless communications, energy supplies, transparent electronics and computer usability. OSU is located in Corvallis, Oregon.
