The Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE) presented Lawrence Behr, CEO of LBA Group, Inc. with its coveted Fellow honor. Behr is a founding member of the SBE and a nationally recognized innovator in the broadcast technology community.
SBE President, Joe Snelson presented the Fellow honor at SBE’s National Awards Dinner in Indianapolis on October 30, 2013 at the Sheraton Indianapolis Hotel & Suites. LBA’s Director of Site Services, Michael W. Hayden accepted the honor on Behr’s behalf and presented the award to Behr upon his return to LBA’s headquarters in Greenville, NC.
In his presentation, Snelson noted the many contributions made by Behr and how he has been a leader and innovator in the broadcast and wireless communications industry for over 50 years. Behr has contributed his expertise to both the private and public telecommunications sectors, from the management of corporate, military and government infrastructure projects. Over the years, he has developed new antenna systems and lightning protection products. He holds numerous issued and pending patents on these products. Many of these cutting edge developments are part of the LBA product offerings at: devlbagroup.com/products/broadcasting.
Behr has also served as an expert witness on matters relating to telecommunications infrastructure, regulation and allocations. This includes having his expertise called upon on numerous occasions for briefings before the Federal Communications Commission. He has led his company to twice being awarded status as an INC 5000 company and being cited as a top 50 Hispanic business in North Carolina for the last five years.
Over the years Behr has supported efforts by La Asociación Mexicana de Ingenieros y Técnicos en Radiodifusión A.C. (AMITRA). He has also been involved with other endeavors throughout parts of Latin America and takes pride in his Hispanic heritage.
“I do not know a more deserving person than Lawrence,” said LBA President and COO Jerry Brown. “He was a founding member of the SBE and his support for the Society through-out the years has never wavered. This honor acknowledges his body of work to the broadcast industries,” added Brown.
The SBE Fellow honor comes as Behr’s company, founded as Lawrence Behr Associates, Inc., celebrates 50 years in business. Today, LBA Group, Inc. continues providing expert advisory services to a diverse and notable clientele throughout the world. Another LBA Group company, LBA Technology, Inc., has become a respected worldwide provider of RF equipment including high power medium wave antenna systems, industrial RF systems, and RF safety equipment. Behr’s company has also recently launched LBA University, Inc. which provides OSHA RF safety training and other regulatory compliance training.
“It’s gratifying to receive this high honor particularly as we celebrate 50 years in business this year and SBE prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year,” said Behr.
Candidates for SBE Fellow are nominated by their peers. The select few who receive this high honor must have made significant contributions to the broadcast technology field or the SBE. Just 62 members have been honored with the Fellow rank in SBE’s 49 year history.
