Mica capacitors are widely used in low and medium power RF equipment and are stocked in depth. The styles most frequently encountered in medium wave broadcasting are the 291/G1, 292/G2, 293/G3 and 294/G4. Identical electrically, the "290" types are cast epoxy cylinders, while the "G" types use ceramic bodies and have cast aluminum (brass in some models) endplates with dual mounting holes.
The "290" types are typically used with separate endplates, but can also be bolted directly into circuitry without the endplates. The endplates are normally used because they help cool the capacitor, increasing reliability.

In its many years of RF systems production, LBA has accumulated a large number of radio frequency transmitting capacitors. These are RF transmitting fixed and variable vacuum capacitors, and many of the heavy duty ceramic mica type capacitors.
Many of the vacuum capacitors are exact replacement for now hard to get glass capacitors used in antenna, transmitter, and RF heating applications. In many cases, the alternative is an expensive conversion to currently available ceramic vacuum capacitors.
We have a variety of fixed mica transmitting capacitors in G1, G2, G3 and G4 sizes. These have heavy ceramic cases with integral cast aluminum end plates. The massive cast aluminum end bells of the ceramic “G” capacitors result in better heat dissipation. This is particularly notable if the epoxy capacitors are used without end plates. They directly replace size 291 – 294 plastic case mica capacitors. And many “old timers” consider them more durable. New ones are only available on special order from the manufacturer, at several times the price of the plastic micas!

Notes on capacitors
We check capacitance on fixed capacitors at 1 MHz using a TOMCO TE-1000 vector impedance analyzer. Vacuum capacitors have been tested to the manufacturer’s peak test voltage using our in house 70 KV AC test set.
Vacuum capacitor end plates and brackets, if required and available, will be supplied with the unit. Capacitor type numbers given are basic and do not necessarily include nomenclature for custom feature differences, such as mounting. Thus, it will generally be up to the customer to fabricate suitable brackets or adaptations.
Returns within the guarantee period must be preauthorized and sent to us prepaid. Capacitors must received by LBA in the same condition as shipped for a refund.
