LBA Gains Crossed-Field Antenna Rights

April 7, 2000 (Greenville, NC) – LBA Technology, Inc. announced today that it had concluded an exclusive agreement with the inventors of the Crossed-Field Antenna. The agreement provides for exclusive manufacturing and marketing rights for the proprietary CFA AM broadcast antenna throughout the western hemisphere.

The Crossed-Field Antenna is a radically different transmitting antenna technology recently invented by Maurice Hately and Fathi Kabbary. When applied to medium wave (AM) broadcasting, the technology promises to reduce transmitting tower heights from the 200 to 400 foot range to less than 30 feet, while maintaining efficiency and signal quality. Initial tests reportedly have shown increased broadcast service areas, reduced real estate requirements and unobtrusive antenna profiles.

The CFA works on a different principle than conventional AM antennas. It splits the transmitter power into magnetic and electrical components and recombines them in an "interaction zone". When the phases of the components are correctly set, Poynting vectors synthesis occurs, launching radiation into space.

A rigorous program of development and testing will be carried out by LBA Technology to validate antenna performance and benefits, and to determine feasibility of manufacture and commercial deployment. Testing will include investigation of compliance with Federal Communications Commission performance requirements.

If performance and commercialization targets are attained, LBAT expects to begin marketing omnidirectional medium wave Cross-Field Antenna systems in the United States and Latin America within the year.

"Crossed-Field Antenna technology is promising and has the potential of revolutionizing AM broadcasting, particularly in the in-band digital era," commented Lawrence Behr, CEO of LBA Technology parent company LBA Group, Inc. "The inventors have shown confidence in the global engineering leadership of LBA Technology by selecting it to commercialize this remarkable antenna."
