Fixed Broadband
Engineering Capabilities

General Technical Features:

  • Coverage for point-to-multipoint, point-to-point (link), free-space optic, and mesh networks.
  • Supports MMDS, ITFS, LMDS, 802.11, SCADA, DEMS, STL, and other modes.
  • Full FCC analysis and application capabilities for all modes
  • Point-to-Multipoint Specific: (With network hubs and discrete fixed CPE locations)

    • Received signal and interference levels downlink and uplink for each CPE.
    • Link reliability analysis for each CPE for both downlink and uplink, including fade and rain outage effects.
    • Assess adaptive automatic power control on uplink to achieve reliability or fade margin targets and impact of strongest interferers for both downlink and uplink.
    • Support FDD or TDD multiplexing with full multiple access capability. TDD analysis considers CPE-to-CPE and hub-to-hub interference in addition to normal hub-to-CPE and CPE-to-hub interference.
    • Adaptive transmit/receive antennas and adaptive modulation are supported.
    • Multiple CPE channels are definable, and CPE’s can be grouped for easy organization, such as service level profiles.
    • Specialized intermodulation studies can be performed for broadband systems where signals from other interfering systems may be problematic.

    Point-to-Point Specific:

    • On each radio path, full downlink and uplink reliability analysis.
    • Full microwave path analysis including path profile, rain and fade outage, percent availability, dispersive fade margin, antenna diversity reception, and cross-link interference.
    • Adaptive capabilities for considering trees, buildings, or terrain elevation enhancements in propagation link studies, and such factors as occupied bandwidth in interference studies.
    • Define and manage license coordination process.

FCC MMDS Two-Way interference analysis: (Part-21 MMDS Rules)

    • RSA file creation and editing in standardized FCC format.
    • RS grid creation in accordance with FCC requirements.
    • Power flux density studies for assessing excessive power levels outside service area.
    • C/I ratio studies to neighboring systems.
    • Interference and noise rise studies to neighboring system hubs.
    • Interference studies to incumbent ITFS receive sites.
    • Full map display capabilities for all study results including PFD, C/I, and shadowing.
    • All calculation results available in text and Excel format reports in a composite and channel-by-channel basis.
    • All study map results available in EDX format as well as MapInfo® MIF/MID format on a composite and channel-by-channel basis.

  • System layout for multi-sector, hubs and CPE’s for point-to-multipoint and consecutive point systems can be weighted by land use data, demographic centroids, traffic centroids, or building rooftops.
  • Frequency planning is performed using standard or user-defined channel plan templates. An unlimited number of channels can be managed with arbitrary center frequencies, bandwidths, and air-interface types. Support for frequency-hopping (FH) technologies is also available so that hopping sequences rather than channels can be assigned to base sectors.
  • Support for free space optics (laser) networks takes into account fog, building motion and glass reflectivity effects.
  • Traffic modeling available to estimate of total data traffic load per sector for multiple service profiles. Calculations can be weighted by land use data, demographic centroids, or traffic data centroids.
  • Support for OFDM air-interface types.
